Being a hiphop star and an ex-con seems to be two birds of the same feather that fly together. One can hardly point at a hiphop star with an impressive career that has not been thrown behind bars for one crime or the other. Popular crimes that make them temporary visitors of the jail house include illegal possession of firearms, drinking under the influence, possession or use of drugs and other hard substances, violent behavior in public and others. Being locked down however do not seem to affect artists or those who know how to make hiphop beats adversely. They sometimes make return visits for the same or other crimes and sing and boast of having visited the jail house. Some write and record tracks while in jail that go on to become top sellers.
