Making The Most of Competitions As A Link Building Resource:

August 28th, 2011

If you have any experience with off-site optimisation, or any link building service in the UK, then you will be aware of the importance of link building and more importantly how it can impact your search engine rankings. The problem with link building however is that it’s very easy to go stale – sometimes the same tired strategies just stop producing results and you need to start getting a little bit creative with your link building to keep your rankings moving in the right direction.

There are many link building processes you can rely on, but building a competition, and marketing it correctly, is a great way to attract additional links to your website. Users absolutely love competition – particularly if they are free to enter, and if you market it creatively enough i.e. “you must re-tweet to enter”, then you can leverage a significant amount of exposure for your brand and draw in a lot of traffic to your website in literally no time.

If you are about to start a competition there are a few things you need to think about first. The prize has to be appealing – for example, it must be enough to draw the user’s eye and it must be literally laid on a plate for them in terms of being able to enter the competition, too. Take a look around and see what competitions your competitors have been running lately and try and adapt your approach to fit.

Finally, include social buttons beside your competition post, give it a closing date and make sure that everyone you know, everyone in your network, is aware that the competition exists. Your first port of call should also be to list it across all the various free competition sites on the web.
