Freeview HD with Richer Sounds
December 20th, 2011
The UK currently has millions of homes that use Freeview HD. This service provides both the standard definition and high definition channels for viewing. Freeview has no subscription costs and only have to purchase a compatible set-top or HD television with a DVB-T2 tuner, so that the HD transmissions can be decoded. There is no new aerial or satellite dish required, if you already have an aerial that is working with freeview currently it will not need to be upgraded. Several of the HD programs are available in a 5.1 surround sound and have a much better sound than a standard definition. The UK has already many cities that receive Freeview HD and the goal is to have over 98% of the population covered by the end of next year. This would be in time for the 2012 UK Olympics to be viewed by the entire population on Freeview HD with a much clearer sound quality.
